It's a time to reflect on the changes we want (or need) to make and resolve to follow through on those changes
Do not need to quit smoking because I do not smoke.
Do not need to quit drinking because I do not have the disposable income to buy the rum my heart desires.
Do not need to tame the Bulge because I look like I need to gain weight. 6ft 3in tall and well under my ideal weight.
Do not need to Enjoy Life More because I do take every day to the Max of fun living with my family.
Do not need to Learn Something New because with all the changes in the Mortgage business I learn plenty.
I help others and I am well organized but when it comes to Business well should I throw out a Hope and a prayer? (If Chuck Norris was around me he would take that to)
1.Close 9 loans every month.
2.Be known in the Mortgage community as a Trusted Advisor.
3.Have my Processor and Underwriter pick up the phone when I call.
4.Win my 12yr old son in Call of Duty Black Ops.

@penelope-Those are not my figures they are the figures stated by the newly appointed Head of The Real Estate Division at DORA, and she expressed a deep concern due to that figure/loss of appraisers ratio.I already am aware of the ramifications of implementing HVCC and amcs and the 47% figure without certainty cannot directly be attributed to those ramifications, but it sure stinks in Denmark. The amcs dont affect me as I dont do work for less than my worth, but there are others out there that are less strong than me in saying NO, but unfortunately in Colorado there will be 47% fewer appraisers in 2011 saying anything....,which also means that there are 47% less users of appraisal software,MLS systems, taxable appraisal income, etc, etc, etc.

That is a book I could really use ! I do need to listen to some GOOD advice, and put it into ACTION ! I resolve that it is Time to rally my investor clients that I have had sitting along the sidelines for the past 2 1/2 years. 2011 and shortly into 2012 I believe will be a year of plunder when it come to equity acquistion. Sharpen your swords and your pens ! Will The book come C.O.D. ?
P.S. - Breezed the NMLS test on Monday (procrastination is an art) while I did not score
a 100%, like my manager did, I did manage to break 90... my question or concern is that I am not told which of the few questions I missed. They broke it down into the 4 catagories and right / wrong for each but I guess I'll never know which ones I thought were RIGHT but are actually wrong... I could be in deep kimchi if I actually practiced some of those. At least tell me what questions I missed, after all making us more compentent was the purpose wasn't it ? My New Year's resolution is to export my client database to an external management system and find a new net branch opportunity. The current company, although one of the largest in my area, doesn't have the dedicated infrastructure moving forward to support our volume projections.
Have already put out feelers to some of the competitors and have so far garnered an amazing response. It's difficult when you have 2 of the top 10 company producers and the most profitable branch to be treated like a second class citizen.
Bring on 2011!!!

jdillingham: (December 15, 2010 10:11am)
Guys, in spite of what you think, if rates stay where they are the number of refi's we will do will be dramatically less next year than this year. Sure the number of LO's that leave will mean more deals for the rest of us. But those that leave are not doing a lot of deals now so their absence, while welcome, will in no way offset the overall reduction in business next year. Again, this is based on current rates, if they go back down to where they were 7 weeks ago you would be right, but I doubt they will. I'm afraid that this silver lining that you are talking about is really a mirage. We need to have significantly fewer players that even you expect for it to make any difference. It will take some real carnage to get to that point.

Sounds good Evil Genius...just be careful of certain state laws that say some "proof of income" must be included in loan file. We have that in MD, one of those blue, blue states in the US who once complained that those bad, bad lenders wouldn't lend to everybody with a pulse. Is that hypocrisy?

One of my lenders is rolling out the new comp plan in February. While there are fewer fish in the water and fewer poles and that normally would be good news, the thing is we all will have to work harder next year to make the same income. Sounds a lot like the appraisers, huh. I charge the same rate or better than my local competition. I'm pretty sure I'm earning less than the bank with their SRP. Why is my income a question? My borrowers know what I get paid and how. They don't care. All they care about is that they get competitive rates and costs. If the feds can do this to the appraisal industry and the broker industry, who is next? Realtors? Insurance agents? Car salesmen? Hey, how about the Avon lady or pampered chef sales person? If indeed the new comp plan cuts my income I'm done. I won't work harder for less. Interesting, the money will still be there, the banks will be keeping it; can't give it to a L O, but the CEO can sure take it.

If any of you L/Os out there are working with an AMC that's still delivering products that are holding up your loans and hittin' your pocketbook too hard in southern CA, let me know. I've also seen cases where L/Os are now starting to be charged, by their Broker, for the AMC profit portion of the fee. Anybody out there experiencing that? Their logic is that since the L/O is originating this product, the L/O should be responsible for the fee being paid for the LARA review and the "ValueFinder" fee...amazing!
PenelopeX: (December 15, 2010 7:45am)
Hey, "JoeColorado," you're absolutely partly-right ;-) in your statement, "there are 970+/- appraisers in Colorado and of those licenses up for renewal 47% !!!!! have not applied to have their licenses renewed this year......mmmmmm a frightening statistic isnt it?I wonder if HVCC and amc's have anything to do with it?"
HVCC created the legitimacy for AMCs to control the "point of sale" of an appraisal and the price the lender will pay (about 33% more than they used to pay for an appraisal) and the price the appraiser will get (about 40% less than they used to get paid), AND have no liability for the product they peddle...SWEEEEEET gig, huh?
Most appraisers, especially those who were beaten up by value-pushing L/Os over the past decade or two are finding other work, because now they're just being pressured (by the AMC) to produce their product in an incredibly unreasonable amount of time, that affects quality AND their reputation (and future work) with ALL the liability.

Most importantly, I resolve to make 2011 a better year than 2010, as I did make 2010 a better year than 2009. New deals are starting to come in and I intend to close on them and throw more lines out to reel in even more deals.
Good luck to everyone for a great 2011 and Happy Holidays.

I will have completed a 12 week series of webinars for my agents on social media, gmail etc. But with what I learned this weekend I will have a subset of the same lessons for my B2B clients, branding me as the expert!

Ny resolution is to try to be more positive as we continue to face all the regulation changes -- especially the one coming up that is attempting to hack away at our compensation.

I am in Florida and interviewed 3 processors this week only to find out they do not have current licenses and have not started the process to obtain a license. I couldn't believe they had no idea they needed to be licensed. Obviously they will need to find new careers.

Every day I am going to, "do one thing today to build my business." This could include calling a realtor, calling a past client, sending an email to my database to update them on what's going on in mortgages, etc.

My business plan for 2011 is to get my social networking up and going by linking Twitter, Facebook, Linked in, Outlook and Top Producer to Ping.fm and update 5 times a day. To have all of my listings on YouTube which is the #2 search engine by the end of January. Social media is where it is and where it is going.

I'm going to start each day by kissing my wife before she heads off to work in the morning. That always gets me motivated to go out and "do it better"...so that hopefully she won't have to work so hard! She supports me in the lifestyle to which I am accustomed! :)

2011 Business Resolution: I resolve to identify the top 20% of my list in terms of revenue, pay each of those a personal visit in 2011, and send the rest a video "Tip of the Day" each Monday.

Statistics are a funny thing, as in "Loans per Originator".Many of those "not yet renewed" FL originators have already left the business, many have gone the Federale route, and many are probably hooked up with licensed shills to do loans on the "down low". In addition, that numerator called "Loans per" just got hammered the past several weeks as the half-century record of low rates have come and gone (see Bill Gross, PIMCO).
Lastly, FL is the worst state to use as an example of "new clients" for remaining originators. There's more horses needing a 19th Century blacksmith at the Hialeah, Hollywood and other FL racetracks than buyers needing a 21st Century NMLS (ooh!!) certified loan originator. Remember, most buyers have already been steered to the realtor's in-house lender.

To stay up to date with TBWS. Update my client list, and personally visit Realtors and potential clients in out lying areas that people do not go to.

Since over half the originators will be leaving the market, marketing to these wonderful people for their data bases will be in order for the new year. Of course if I were a proactive manager, I would have already distributed this information to the chosen few who are still "putting their poles in the water" and provide them with additional "bait" for their pole.
